Fishing Poles and Tackle Boxes for Loan

The Library provides fishing poles and tackle boxes for patrons to borrow free of charge! This is a joint project with the State Department of Environmental Conservation, the Oatka Fish and Game Sportsman’s Club, and the Woodward Library.

The DEC provided the Library with five fishing poles. The Oatka Fish and Game Sportman’s Club supplied the tackle boxes, including bobbers, hooks and sinkers. The Sportman’s Club keeps the equipment in working order.

Like other library materials, the fishing gear is checked out. The poles and tackle boxes are checked out for one week. Patrons must be 18 years or older to check out the equipment. All participants must adhere to fishing laws, including having a fishing license for anyone 16 years or older.

To round out the experience, the library has books on fishing, as well as a guide “Getting Started - A Beginner’s Guide to Freshwater Fishing.”
