Audiobooks

Audiobooks are a great reading alternative.  They can be really fun if you have a lot to do and can’t sit down to read a book.  You can listen to books on CD during drives or listen to a Playaway while you mow the lawn or go for a run.  You can even download audiobooks to listen to on your iPod or computer.  You can listen to an audiobook while doing almost anything.

Books on CD

Burned CD coverSearch through our catalog to find lots of books on CD.  Do an advanced search in the catalog to search for books on CD just for teens.  Simply set the library to “LeRoy  - Woodward Memorial Library” and the location to “YA Compact Disc.”  Or search the entire NIOGA system by library set to “ALL”.

Playaways

playawaysPlayaways are small units that come preloaded with an audiobook.  A Playaway is kind of like an iPod that will only play the book that is already loaded onto it.  It’s very easy to turn up the volume, slow down or speed up the narrator’s voice, pause, skip ahead or go back.  If you don’t have your own mp3 player and don’t want to lug around a portable CD player, then Playaways are definitely something to check out.
